Understanding the power of customer loyalty influence is essential for any brand that wants to strengthen trust, deepen connection, and build long-term resilience.
How confident are you that your customers are the true face to your brand? How confident are you that your customers would be willing to ride out a storm with you? How confident are you that you have what it takes to accomplish this?
I was recently asked if my profession makes me more critical of the brands I support. The answer to this question was no, if anything it makes me appreciate the brands that get it right!
Today I want to talk about brand reputation and the importance of customers being the face of your brand — a core driver of customer loyalty influence. I am going to kick this off with reputation, lean into brand, and then marry the two with your customers.

Reputation: The Foundation of Customer Loyalty Influence
This should not be a surprise to anyone, but a company’s reputation is one of its most valuable assets, influencing customer trust, brand loyalty, and long-term success. A positive reputation enables companies to build credibility and fosters confidence among consumers, investors, and stakeholders, making people more likely to choose that company over its competitors.
When a company is known for delivering high-quality products, excellent customer service, and ethical business practices, it attracts new customers while retaining existing ones, which is crucial for sustainable growth.
Moreover, a strong reputation can lead to increased profitability as customers are often willing to pay a premium for brands they trust. I am also happy to point out that it enhances employee morale and recruitment efforts, as top talent is more likely to seek employment at a company with a solid reputation.
On the other hand, a damaged reputation will have severe consequences, including but not limited to loss of customer trust, declining sales, and difficulty attracting investors. Negative publicity, whether due to poor customer experiences, unethical behavior, or public controversies, can spread rapidly in the digital age, making reputation management more important than ever. In highly competitive markets, where products and services can be similar, reputation often becomes a key differentiator that sets a company apart.
Ultimately, a positive reputation not only strengthens a company’s position in the market but also provides resilience during challenging times, allowing it to recover more quickly from setbacks.
Brand Identity: The Emotional Engine Behind Customer Loyalty
A company’s brand is one of the most crucial elements of its identity, shaping how it is perceived by customers, employees, as well as the broader market. A strong brand goes beyond just a logo or tagline…it represents the company’s values, mission, and the promises it makes to its customers.
A company’s brand creates a distinct personality that helps it stand out in a crowded marketplace, making it easier for consumers to recognize and remember the business. A well-defined brand will foster customer trust and emotional connection, which can drive loyalty and repeat business. People are more likely to engage with and support brands that align with their own values and deliver consistent experiences.
Additionally, a strong brand can justify premium pricing, as customers are oftentimes willing to pay more for a brand they perceive as superior or reputable. For employees, a compelling brand can instill pride and a sense of belonging, improving morale and aiding in the recruitment efforts by attracting top talent.
From a business perspective, a recognizable and respected brand can open new opportunities, from strategic partnerships to market expansion, while also providing a competitive edge. In our increasingly digital and globalized world, where consumers are bombarded with choices, a clear and consistent brand is essential for capturing attention and maintaining your relevance. Ultimately, a company’s brand is not just about what it sells, but it’s about the story it tells and the relationships it builds, both of which are vital for long-term success.
When Customers Become the Face of Your Brand
With all the above being said, companies that have a clearly defined path are aligned across the company and can find the delicate balance of turning their customers into the face of their brand will succeed the most.
A company that positions its customers as the face of its brand often enjoys significant success because it builds on the genuine trust of customers, fosters community by leading with value, and enhances brand authenticity. When customers are at the forefront, their real-life experiences and stories serve as powerful testimonials that truly resonate with others.
People are more likely to trust peer recommendations and authentic user experiences over traditional advertising, making customer-driven branding an extremely effective strategy. By showcasing satisfied customers, companies humanize their brand and create a sense of belonging, making people feel seen and valued.
This approach also fosters stronger emotional connections, as potential customers can see themselves reflected in the brand’s messaging. Additionally, when customers are actively involved in shaping and representing a brand…through user-generated content, testimonials, or community engagement, they become brand advocates who organically promote the company to their networks.
This form of word-of-mouth marketing is not only cost-effective but highly influential in driving new customer acquisition and long-term loyalty. Likewise, involving customers in the brand narrative allows companies to stay attuned to their audience’s evolving needs and preferences, fostering innovation and customer-centric growth.
Ultimately, when a company empowers its customers to be the face of its brand, it cultivates trust, loyalty, and a strong sense of community, all of which contribute to sustained success and a competitive edge in the marketplace.
A Personal Story of Loyalty in Action: Fortnum & Mason
There is one brand that has grown near and dear to my heart since moving to the UK in 2014. I began going to afternoon tea in late 2015, but did not find Fortnum & Mason’s afternoon tea until early 2018 when a dear friend brought me there after letting me know the place I was currently going to was “so last year”.
I agreed to go but was a little weary as I had been going to my normal place for about two years, with the occasional trip someplace else. The bar was set high as far as I was concerned, but boy I had no clue just what I was in for. The moment I walked onto the ground floor, I knew I was walking into something that was iconic as it exuded a sense of heritage, elegance, and timeless sophistication.
I was early so I poked around and soon knew I would be shopping after tea. Well, that day I shopped on three separate floors, curated wicker baskets are something we order on special occasions or just because, and have been hooked on all that Fortnum’s is since that first encounter. The real attraction for me though as you probably guessed is their afternoon tea.
From the time I step into the lift, and head up to the fourth floor, until the time I say goodbye to the staff I have gotten to know over the years, it is like I have stepped into another world. A world where I want to ignore my iPhone, where I do not mind sitting on my own with a good book, where I feel so lucky to share the experience with someone in my life and where I feel like as a human I matter.
The level of service is always top-notch, and I have had the pleasure of getting to know many of the staff members (this is where I find they set themselves apart, and I will address this shortly). The food is always consistent and top-quality… You will nibble on the best coronation chicken finger sandwiches, eat the tastiest scones (do not even get me started on the yummy lemon curd), and my husband swears he could eat one hundred of the rose eclairs…all while sipping on the tea or teas of your choice.
Okay let’s dive into the staff! There is massive attention to detail on every level, but they excel at the human level. I first noticed this in my interactions with Colin and then Petra, and from there decided to engage the way I engage my customers by being human, vulnerable and caring.
It has been an elevated experience since then, walking into see faces that are happy to see me and so welcoming to the people that I frequent the fourth floor with. I adore being sat at my favorite table in the tearoom to the right of reception, along the back wall in front of the window! Each friend I have that comes into town I take there, I book each friend I am unable to meet in for a special treat, every special occasion is celebrated there (most special was my son’s first birthday), and it is a multi-visit staple when my mom is over from Boston.
Each person experiences the true wonder of Fortnum & Mason, with some of them even feeling like a VIP. A standout was in 2023 when they invited my mom to scroll through their “Christmas Press Day”, and all I can say is she smiled ear to ear for weeks and talked about it to others for even longer. They made me want to be a face of their brand just by being them, and even if I even do have a tea that was not on par, I would overlook it. Your product matters, but the way you treat people matters even more! Be Human, Be Empathetic and Be Real!
I am going to end this story with a quote from the last person in my life (a customer of mine) who had their first, but I am sure not their last tea at Fortnum’s!
Christie Avila, Customer Advocacy & Community at Dropbox, says this: “Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason was an unforgettable experience — elevated by special touches like champagne and extra desserts, making us feel truly immersed in this cherished British tradition. I was accompanied by friends, and they left raving about F&M, turning into advocates themselves. This experience was a direct result of Jennifer being a champion for the brand, showcasing the impact of passionate advocates in shaping customer perceptions and loyalty”.
Where Human Connection Transforms Customers Into Loyal Advocates
At the close of the day, in today’s competitive marketplace, the companies that thrive are those that understand the power of customer connection. When customers become the face of your brand, they don’t just buy your products, they become loyal advocates who share their experiences and bring others along for the journey.
This kind of authentic engagement builds lasting trust, deepens emotional ties, and fosters the kind of loyalty that no traditional marketing strategy can replicate. At the heart of it all, the most successful brands recognize that while products create interest, it’s the way they treat people that creates lifelong loyalty.
Now let me ask you… Are you ready to turn your customers into the face of your brand?

Summary: Customer Loyalty Influence: How Human Connection Builds Iconic Brands
True customer loyalty influence doesn’t happen by luck — it’s earned through how you treat people, the sincerity you show, and the consistency you uphold every single day. When customers feel seen, valued, and genuinely cared for, they don’t just stay with your brand, they strengthen it with their trust, their stories, and their continued commitment. The brands that choose connection over transaction build loyalty that lasts, communities that grow with them, and relationships resilient enough to carry them through any storm.
